Please note that while we were comped a hotel stay, all opinions are honest and my own.
With the most romantic time of the year coming up, Valentine’s Day, I can’t help but share one of the most favorite romantic things for us to do as a couple: travel!
We have traveled together quite a lot, both internationally and domestically. And there’s nothing like travel that helps you discover the other person…whether good or bad, you WILL get to know your travel partner!
Recently, we went to a gorgeous little mountain resort that disconnected us from everything, which was absolutely necessary. We realized that even if we are spending time together and traveling, we are connected to everything else so much that we may not enjoy each other’s company on a human and emotional level as we should. Getting away from it all really helped connect us with each other and disconnect from the rest of the world.
Tucked away in the outskirts of Brysonville, NC, the luxurious Lakeview at Fontana has everything you need, and don’t need, to magically transport you and your partner to a place where you can enjoy each other, get in touch with nature if you so desire, and completely disconnect with daily distractions that can sometimes become toxic when consumed in heavy doses.
We got there and were excitedly greeted by the most amazing staff, and our room was gorgeous overlooking the Fontana Lake, and fully equipped with NO TV so you are forced to disconnect (if you must watch TV, which I do NOT recommend, there’s a common area/lounge).
The property instantly took me back to the small towns of Italy, with lovely music that surely enhanced these vintage Italian vibes. There was a wine and cheese hour in the evening, and a delicious breakfast each morning to get you started with the day with a powerful boost.
During the day, you can choose to do a variety of excursions to explore the surrounding nature (hike, water activities in the lake, etc.), or take in the small-town charms of neighboring Bryson City, a 15-minute drive from the resort, where you can just walk around, eat at one of the quaint and cozy restaurants, or do a beer-tasting at the town’s brewery…
But my absolute favorite part of the trip was the tree-top soaker. That’s right, a spa room to give you the most luxurious, private, and romantic bath in a treehouse! The serene instrumental music, with cold champagne in hand, the delicious smells of bath salts, and the glorious sunset over the lake truly does take you to the most heavenly state of mind that you would normally think possible only of exotic Asian island resorts like in Bali or the Maldives. At the end, you leave completely relaxed and rejuvenated, ready for the most peaceful night’s sleep.
All in all, it really was an amazing experience to disconnect and reconnect with ourselves and nature in such a romantic location, something we hope to repeat in 2019. It should definitely be on your list of to-dos as well, just remember to book way in advance because they get booked so quickly!
